Claims Data

The CRU and HMCTS have both released data that sheds some light onto the numbers of claims being processed.

CRU Data

The CRU has published their yearly recovery unit performance data on the total number of claims notified to the unit for the 12 months to the end of March 2014. The data reveals that:

  • There were 772,843 Motor claims registered, down by 45,491.

  • There were 105,291 Employer’s Liability claims registered, up by 14,176.

  • There were 103,578 Public Liability claims registered, up by 594.

  • There were 18,499 Clinical Negligence claims registered, up by 2,493.

The high level data produced by HMCTS provides the latest statistics on the type and volume of cases that were received and processed through the court system of England and Wales in the fourth quarter of 2013, October to December.

Analysis of the data reveals that since 2009:

  • the number of new civil claims received by the court is down by 12%; and

  • the court held 37% fewer hearings and trials.

The data also reveals case numbers for four pre-determined stages of the process: judgment, defence, allocation and hearing. View the HMCTS data here
