Civil Procedure Rules: 69th and 70th updates

Three updates to the CPR have been published this month and will come into effect in April:

The main changes in the 69th update are the introduction of the single County Court (effective on 6 April) and Enforcement law changes (on 22 April). Other important amendments include a revised form of wording for the Precedent H statement of truth and a new precedent H which actually includes the statement of truth (effective on 6 April).

The 70th update brings in further amendments in relation to Certification of Enforcement Agents and will commence on 6 April 2014, and the 71st update provides for a new Planning Court within the High Court. All the changes are summarised on the MOJ CPR webpage.

In addition, the CPRC has now agreed amendments to the costs budgeting provisions and subject to ministerial approval these will come into force on 22 April. These amendments follow last year’s CPRC consultation on the issue of exemptions to costs budgeting and management. The amendments reflect the result of that consultation so that costs management will now apply in all multi-track cases worth up to £10 million.
