Scottish Civil Justice Council – Annual Programme 2013/14
The Scottish Civil Justice Council’s annual programme for 2013/14 has been published. This sets out in detail how the SCJC works and explains the manner in which it intends to carry out its remit across the civil justice system. The work of the SCJC over the coming year will focus on three key reform initiatives which are part of the Scottish Government’s “Making Justice Work” programme. These are:
The implementation of the Scottish Civil Court Review recommendations and the forthcoming Courts Reform (Scotland) Bill.
The recommendations of Sheriff Principal Taylor’s Review on expenses and funding of civil litigation in Scotland.
The Tribunals (Scotland) Bill.
The Lord President, the Right Honourable Lord Gill, who is Chair of the SCJC, commented on the publication of the annual programme:
The programme of civil courts reform on which we are about to embark is a momentous development in the Law of Scotland. The Scottish Civil Justice Council will be vital in ensuring the success of the changes and that our civil justice system remains responsive to modern society.
